Last month, I was working on my PC, and suddenly it started popping up unnecessary ads, my default search engine got changed, and gradually my system also started lagging.

Though it is not a virus, it can’t be considered completely safe either.

1. Consider Only Trusted App Stores: The Apple Store, Windows Store, and Google Play Store are highly authentic and dependable sources of downloading software. Only use them to get any app or program. 
2. Keep The Firewall And Virus Detectors ON: The built-in system security features, like Windows Defender, can work pretty well in counteracting such issues. Keep them active, updated, and working. 
3. Keep The Device Updated: Make sure your Windows, Mac OS, Android, or iOS is updated with the most recent update package. 
4. Check for Suspicious Activities and Take Action: Some unusual system responses, like recurring ads or a change of default browser homepage, need to be addressed as soon as possible. 
5. Read Reviews Before Choosing: Before installing any unknown program, please go through its reviews on YouTube or take a look at the discussions at the Q&A platforms like Quora and Reddit to understand its essence and performance. 
6. Avoid Clicking Unknown Links: You might find many attractive ads and pop-ups drawing your attention. Refrain from clicking on them to avoid such malicious software.
